When I first started with “Color Crew,” I knew that I wanted to make something that I could stand behind and be proud of, even if no one else really “got it.” I have had so many people come into my life or with in my view that have and do suffer with anxiety. Sometimes I think I have anxiety but I’ve never really addressed that with myself. So when I initially started drawing for what would become “Color Crew,” I did so with the intentions of making a collection of large scale images that I could one day print and send off to my friends. Something tangible that I could give to them to help them keep their hands busy while letting their brains slow down. Something they could focus on without worry or stress of deadlines, emails, or what was directly stressing them out and making them feel anxious or out of control.
Fast forward ~2years and that is exactly what this book has done for me. At times I have felt like a giant failure for not being able to put out this content. I just kept adding more and more. Scrapping illustrations and putting them on the back burner. Never sharing them and then just creating more and more. Looking back on it now, I was already doing and using my own illustrations to calm my own self-imposed expectations of what success and failure looked like to me.

With every new drawing I was pushing myself into something that I could ultimately collect into a book and offer to people who weren’t just my friends, but anyone who overthinks at times or feels like they haven’t succeeded in a timely fashion on certain milestones that they have set for themselves.
So again, here I am, almost 2 years after I started on “Color Crew” with a simple concept in mind of providing an outlet of expression for people who might feel trapped in their day to day, or just might love to color, and feeling this moment of clarity and accomplishment.
